SK-II Skincare Review
SK-II is a Japanese beauty weapon, just like the brands Tony Moly an Missha in Korea. I have little experience with Japanese skincare or beauty. I was sent two products free of charge from Influenster for testing purposes.
In my SK-II vox, I received a sheet mask (very familiar) and an essence (also familiar). Those are some popular product categories in K-Beauty. I am excited to have my first foray into J-beauty. Thye are from the Skin Treatment line of SK-II.
The mask was just weird altogether. It smelled just like the essence, not all that pleasant. The paper was unusually thick, so the mask didn't sit very well on my face. It required repeated smoothing. The clincher, though, is that the serum didn't absorb into my skin. It peeled off about ten minutes after it dried. So it doesn't work with the other products in my ten step, or even its matching essence in the product line!
The essence is much different from my normal (May Coop's Raw Sauce). IT doesn't smell very botanical. SK-II's essence also doesn't smell very good at all. It's very watery, making it super hard to apply to the face. I never thought consistency would be an issue with essences, but I like them more viscous. I definitely like them to smell good, or like nothing at all. Either way it does its job as an essence.
Its up to you whether or not to buy. I saw no huge red flags, like breakouts or allergic reactions, but the sheet mask doesn't play nice with my other skincare so I wouldn't be buying that anytime soon. The essence I might consider.
If Influenster hadn't sent me these as samples, I would never have them. I'm not into Japanese skincare, and while I was excited to try some, SK-II just disappointed me. I will stick to K-beauty.
These products did come at a good time, though. I was out of my May Coop Raw Sauce and too lazy to go to the mall and buy more :3
