Ole Henriksen Brightening Skincare Review

Note: I received these products complimentary from Influenster to test.

I'm usually pretty excited about getting free products to test, and this was no exception. I was running out of face serum and was pumped to get a new face cream to add to the ten step system I normally use. The three step brightening system was just an added bonus. Despite my mixed feelings about all the products, they were a pleasure to test!

Three Step "Power Bright" Brightening System
The three steps are: polishing mask, facial concentrate, and melting cleanser. It comes with professional complexion sponges. The polishing mask essentially exfoliates, and the grains are so large you have to be careful not to damage your skin. Definitely a negative. The facial concentrate was nice, and you apply the cream cleanser right over the top and sponge off. Overall it improved the smoothness of my skin for sure, but didn't do much by way of brightening. I have healthy skin in general thanks to my ten step regimen, so that might be to blame.

Truth Serum: Vitamin C Collagen Booster
This is a rather nice serum, it smells good, love that it contains vitamin C. But it is sticky and very hard to apply, which earns it a thumbs down. However, it hasn't broken out my skin and helps keep my face very smooth. Not to mention, it came in right when I ran out of my e.l.f. soothing serum, which was super handy and saved me a trip to the beauty store.

Sheer Transformation Face Cream
This facial cream touts Pea Extract and vitamin C to promote skin cell turnover and evening of the skin tone. There is something I absolutely hate about this skin cream: it smells like dill pickles. I kid you not. Because of that, it's not my first choice of face cream. It's not ideal for oily skin unless used as a night cream because it is so rich (which is its only real plus).

Overall, these products were fun to try, but I won't be purchasing them in the future. The skincare made by Ole Henriksen is in the $20-$50 price range. I want to make a point to say that just because the skincare is expensive, doesn't mean that it's perfect. To sum up, each product has a deal breaker:

  • Because of particle size, the exfoliant can do more harm than good if you aren't careful.
  • The face cream smells mildly of dill pickles, and is only good for night use. That bothers me.
  • The serum was sticky and far too difficult to apply to be of any use to me. I am aggressively abusing my face trying to spread it around or pat it on.
I will of course use up these products, I don't see why I should let $20 value sizes of skincare go to waste ;) but I will continue to purchase skincare from trusted and effective drugstore/korean brands, like Tony Moly, The Face Shop, Simple, Pacifica, and Avalon Organics.

I hope this was helpful in your thoughts about Ole Henriksen. When all else fails, try the skincare yourself before you buy! Sephora always has testers out.
