"Eat Pretty" by Jolene Hart Review + Thoughts

I've been in a slump. My skin has been breaking out, I've had little to no energy, and my body shape continues to fight with me. I was looking for a holy grail to help me check myself before I completely wreck myself. I have to admit that Eat Pretty wasn't the holy grail I am seeking; but it really did help.

I have the knowledge of vitamins, minerals, and good nutrition from a few very expensive semesters at college. I know I'm supposed to eat them. I know I am doing wrong by my body when I eat processed food and less whole food. I know that diet is linked to my health, my beauty, how I feel. What I didn't have was the motivation to eat right. Why should I, when everything else is so delicious, easy, and fast?

Eat Pretty didn't teach me anything I didnt already know, so in that respect it could be said I wasted my $10 on the ebook version. But it was the swift kick in the seat of the pants that it took for me to limit my junk intake and make a healthy eating master grocery list.
I've been eating better, its been helping me feel better. And I found that a lot of the things I love... *cough* kimchi and miso *cough* are actually good for me, because they have probiotics! I love green smoothies. The only struggle is how do I cook for myself and manage to eat things other than quinoa and brown rice? I will work on it. We will get there.

For people who dont have the biology education background like I do, this book will teach you a lot about where to find the vitamins and minerals you need, and why you should avoid the mindset of "I will eat what I want and take a multivitamin." Vitamins are more easily absorbed from food!
If you have a solid foundation in nutrition, I wouldn't bother reading this. Also, the book did get really annoying from time to time. You can't brand a healthy diet, and the author tried to, by calling any and every food that could give you a glow up an "Eat Pretty Food." That really got annoying after awhile.
Otherwise I was pleased to find that there were plenty of peer reviewed articles in the references. They were on everything from mammalian aging to the link between HGH and cell turnover in your skin. They make for some very interesting reads if you want to get your nerd on and read into the science behind what builds your beauty.

Its a great book to get you out of your rut and back on track!
